Schedule

Activities

Soft start with small group discussions, or books and puzzles while waiting for everyone to arrive.

Group Gathering

Gathering as group allows us to check in with each other on how we are feeling, what is new in the classroom, new techniques to learn, and to re-visit ideas and projects from our previous gatherings. These discussions work to build a foundation of caring and inquiry within our preschool community.

Music, Movement, and Mindfulness

Songs, singing, and music instruments are part of our daily routine. We love to move creatively to music during class or group time and often in our gym/studio. Caren is a certified Rainbow Kids Yoga Instructor (as well as a kids Karate Instructor). We often lead the children in Yoga and mindfulness activities appropriate for young children.

Activity Time

Children participate in ongoing inquiry projects and move independently around activity learning areas. These areas may reflect a current interest in the classroom, or, are set-up beautifully and intentionally with a provocation that ignites excitement and engagement. Our classroom always appeals to a diverse group of interests with a variety of centres, such as:

  • Science Table

  • Literacy, Math and Science centres

  • Water Table

  • Sand and Sensory Table

  • Light Table

  • Art Areas

  • Exploring Materials (Play Dough, Clay, Paper)

  • Dramatic Play, Puzzles and Games

  • Blocks, Building

Open Snack

We advocate an ‘open’ snack policy, where children are free to have their snack when they are hungry. This allows your child to finish their ‘work’ without interruption, and reduces the number of transitions, which can be difficult for some children. We believe meals should be a time for engaging in social interaction, and usually, children will join their friends as soon as they see them washing their hands and getting ready to enjoy a snack.

Eating with friends is an important part of each child’s social development, however we do not encourage sharing of food due to potential for allergic reactions. As we are also a “Nut Free Zone” please do not send nuts or nut products of any kind in your child’s snack.

We provide a specific table for eating and remind children to wash their hands before eating snack. We encourage nutritious snacks such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, crackers, muffins, and juice, water or milk. Please send snacks in recyclable containers that are labeled with your child’s name (we try to reduce garbage and increase the children’s awareness of the environment). Thank you!

Social Emotional Learning

We incorporate a program of emotional literacy in our work with children. Creating an environment of emotional literacy and social/emotional development is as important as any other component of our program. This creates a foundation for young children to build on, which will give them the skills they need to learn to self regulate and become compassionate members of society. Your child will learn to recognize emotions in themselves and others. We focus on kindness and inclusion to others within our close and greater community.

Daily Gross Motor Development and Outdoor Exploration

We have a gym/studio for gross motor development, and a fenced in Garden for digging, and growing.

Frequent adventures to Rocky Point Park will enable the children to discover nature changing throughout the seasons, as well as provide large open grass areas to explore and a fantastic playground to enjoy. We will be running regular classes outside at Rocky Point Park, providing children with uninterrupted access to nature.
